This Saturday in Atlanta!

Well ATLiens,

Rocktober is filled with an abundance of good music and debaucherous activities for just about everyone, and this Saturday is no exception. Here is a list of things that may be worth your time:

My pick for hotspot of the night? The Masquerade

As always, the Masquerade brings an adventure to any given night of the week. You never know if there is a DJ set down stairs in Hell, a Burlesque show in Purgatory, or a sold out Metal show upstairs in Heaven; And sometimes, if you are lucky, it is all happening at once. Tonight in Heaven, New York "dance punk" darlings Matt & Kim are sure to bring a high energy sing-a-long dance freakout. Always a good time, and everyone knows it (so make sure you get your tickets before it sells out)! Donnis will be opening the show and giving you a little taste of Atlanta hip-hop/soul. Get there early.

In Hell (downstairs) : If you aren't ready to fully commit to a dance party upstairs, singer/songwriter Jackie Greene (who has toured with Huey Lewis, B.B. King, and Taj Mahal) will be there "roots-rocking" your pants off. Folksters Apache Relay (a favorite of mine) will be opening the show. Once again, get there early and prepare yourself for quality Americana rock.

And!!! as if that wasn't enough entertainment... CHAMBERS OF HORROR Haunted House is located behind The Masquerade. It is one of the only haunted houses where you can grab a beer while you wait in line and maybe even get a flash of more flesh than you are ready for! Must, must, must see.
(There is an age limit of 17+)

Post-Hiatus

Today's letter is "L"! Because, that is what my new favorite band's name starts with. When I say new, I obviously mean they are new to me; maybe this is not the first time that you have heard of them...maybe it is, and maybe just maybe you will like them as much as I do.

Le Loup

The Washington, D.C. based band has reached new heights after their single "Morning Song" was used for a Blackberry commercial this year. As you listen to Le Loup, there may/will be obvious comparisons to Arcade Fire and Animal Collective, but I believe there is something special about this five piece indie gem. Maybe I secretly feel that way because of their over use of handclaps (especially in a favorite track of mine "We Are Gods! We Are Wolves"), but it is probably due to the harmonized vocals not being interrupted by too much busy electronic shit in the background. Unlike other hipster favorites, Le Loup delicately stabilizes the quirky sounds and instruments for a beautiful, Autumn like feel. I would strongly recommend acquiring the groups 2009 release "Family" and keeping and eye out for a tour stop in your town.
